COMMITMENT MOTTO
Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality.
It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and
the actions which speak louder than words.
It is making the time when there is none;
coming through time after time;
year after year.
Commitment is the stuff character is made of;
the power to change the face of things.
It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism.
Shearson Lehman corporate motto circa 1983

It's a big and scary world out there. Kids really want to have someone by their side to one extent or another, despite the fact that they might be suggesting a desire for complete independence.
Teens need to be in regular contact with approachable responsible and committed adults who hold clear and unwavering high moral standards. Mainstream television and music today provide examples of adults who live for themselves and live for the day. It is no wonder that most teens today maintain an "it's-all-about-me" mentality. Given the opportunity and example, many teens commit themselves to service to the community.
Parenting is a full-time, non-stop, never-ending job. Love and attention are the principal tools. Too many parents are uninvolved in their children's lives, do not notice their kid's activities or know their child's dreams, hopes, hurts and fears.
Detachment from your child because of personal stress, job preoccupations, personal situations and/or financial strain is never excusable.
Your child is still there in the good times and bad. A parent must be mature and strong and tend to a child's physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs despite what he or she might be going through. Parenting is tough and it takes lots of time, lots of biting one's tongue and lots of sacrifice of things one might want to do. One chose to have kids for whatever reason, thus the duty and obligation remain -- rain or shine.
A child senses his parent's commitment or lack thereof. When a child detects that he is unimportant or less important than parent's job, parent's romantic interest, or parent's personal activities, the child moves on to those people who will provide a substitute. A Ph.D. in Sociology is not required to figure this out.
Be there for your kids with a good attitude. Give them hope for the future. Talk to them. Laugh with them. Give them reason to want to be the best that they can now and later.
Parenting is a one-shot opportunity. Let's do it right.
